Mission Statement
The mission of the Washington County Recreation Department is to offer instructional and recreational programming to the citizens of the community with the purpose of educating and improving physical and social skills by allowing equal opportunities in participation, friendly competition and fair play. It is our goal to enrich the lives of our participants through these numerous program offerings, while at the same time providing a safe and well-maintained facility for their enjoyment.
Facilities
Picnic Shelter
The picnic shelter located at Kaolin Park seats 24 comfortably with ample space surrounding the shelter for additional seating. This area also has an outdoor grill and trash cans for easy clean-up. It may be reserved by anyone 18 years old or older. Reservations should be made by coming by the Recreation Department offices in the Kaolin Park Multi-Purpose Building and signing a Reservation Agreement. The Reservation fee is $15.00 and should be paid at the time the reservation is made. Reservations will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Use of the picnic shelter without a reservation will be allowed as long as the shelter is not reserved.
Outdoor Courts
Outdoor Tennis Courts are located at Kaolin Park and the Sandersville City Ballpark. Outdoor Basketball Courts are located at Kaolin Park. These facilities are lighted. The tennis courts are reserved at various times throughout the year for programs offered by the Recreation Department. An outdoor sand Volleyball court is located at the Sandersville City Ballpark. All courts are available on a first-come, first-play basis.
Athletic Fields
Four athletic fields are housed at Kaolin Park and five fields are located at the Sandersville City Ballpark. Fields are available for public use when the Recreation Department is not using them or when they are not closed for maintenance. Ball fields are available to rent and may be reserved by contacting the Recreation Department.
Playgrounds
A Playground is located at Kaolin Park and at the Sandersville City Ballpark. The playground is for ages 10 and under. A handicap accessible playground is in the plans for the future expansion of Kaolin Park. This would be the first one of this kind in the area.
Kaolin Park Multi-Purpose Building
The Multi-Purpose facility houses the Recreation Department offices and is the location where all registration for programs is accepted. Two multi-purpose gymnasiums are also located within the facility along with a Community Room for meetings and activities. This facility is available for rentals by contacting the Recreation Department.
Programming
The Washington County Recreation Department offers a year round comprehensive recreation program that allows the residents of Washington County an opportunity to find constructive use of their free times while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Programs change on a quarterly basis for everyones enjoyment. Programs include youth baseball, softball, soccer, contact and flag football, basketball, swimming lessons, cheerleading and much more. Adult leagues are offered in Basketball, Volleyball and Softball. For those interested in activities other than sports, an array of instructional programs for youth and adults are also offered.
Future Expansion
Through positive support by the Washington County Recreation Commission, the Washington County Board of Commissioners, and the citizens of Washington County, Kaolin Park is under expansion. Future expansion, to be completed by the Spring of 2004, will include the addition of multi-purpose fields for the use of Soccer/Football and T-ball. Future plans include a playground area, picnic shelters, concession/restroom area and lighting for the ball fields.
